The City and County of Denver's Brownfields program is lead by the Office of Economic Development (OED). The Environmental Quality Division is a principal partner with OED to provide technical environmental assistance to the agency.
EPA Brownfields Assessment Grant
In 2006, the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) awarded the City a grant to conduct environmental assessments of potentially environmentally impaired properties with redevelopment potential and specifically with a focus on transit-oriented development. The grant’s focus will allow the City to address environmental issues and move forward with plans to create transit-oriented development centers in low-income neighborhoods and assess other high-priority locations.
As a function of the Denver Brownfields Program, the Office of Economic Development and the Department of Environmental Health have partnered with other City agencies, local non-profits, and the Denver Housing Authority to identify current and proposed projects that fall under the grant’s focus area.
As of October 2010, all of the project sites identified and selected by project partners have been assessed and are in the process of redevelopment.
