Welcome to Councilwoman Deborah Ortega's Site
What makes Denver a vibrant city is that we have such unique and active neighborhoods; shaped with input and activism from residents and businesses. This open ‘give and take’ exists because of the great work of my predecessor, Councilman Sal Carpio who authored the Registered Neighborhood Organization (RNO) - Notification Ordinance. This has given neighborhoods a voice and an opportunity to be proactive in shaping the future of their communities.
We have thriving commercial areas, great parks and bike trails, and within many neighborhoods a thriving downtown with active business communities. This coupled with the long list of non-profit organizations and foundations that work to meet the needs of struggling families makes Denver truly unique.
I am honored to call this great city my home and to be given the opportunity to earn your trust in returning back to City Council as your At-Large Councilwoman! I attended our public schools, as did my daughter and my grandchildren. Our family has deep roots and a vested interested in keeping Denver a world class city.
I will work with Mayor Hancock to establish a solid tax base that supports the delivery of city services, improve internal procedures that makes Denver a business friendly city and helps attract more jobs across the board. We have a lot of work to do and must succeed as leaders in being good stewards of our public resources.
From serving 16 years as a former Councilwoman of Denver’s 9th District to creating key homeless initiatives for Denver Human Services, I will utilize my 30 plus years of experience and wisdom to work efficiently and swiftly to carry out an agenda that serves the hard working people of Denver. I am hitting the ground running and I have already started to work with the Mayor’s Administration and multiple city agencies to address the economic challenges we are facing. We need to keep Denver strong and we need to involve each and every community in this effort.
My office is always available to serve you and your needs. Please don’t hesitate to use us as a resource.
Sincerely,
Deborah "Debbie" Ortega
