Welcome to Denver Healthy People 2020

Denver Healthy People 2020 organizes collaborative partnerships dedicated to making Denver a healthy place for all. The initiative, launched in 2001 as Denver Healthy People 2010 by the Denver Department of Environmental Health, outlined a set of guiding principles for building a healthier community in the report “Healthy Denver 2010—What We Know”. Denver Healthy People is based on the goals of Healthy People 2020, the Nation’s agenda for promoting health. We are health promotion and prevention oriented.

 Our Mission:

We Support a Healthier Future - Healthy People 2020

To make Denver a healthy place for all by:   promoting a better quality of life and  eliminating health disparities
  •  Denver Healthy People works by blending partnerships, best practices and health promotion to build actions for change. Starting in 2001 Denver Healthy People engaged residents and over 100 organizations in the Denver area to create the following list of six recommendations for improving the health of Denver residents. We encourage their use by health leaders and their partners and use them to guide our initiatives:

  1. Collaboration - Improve communication and collaborative efforts for health with traditional and nontraditional partners.
  2. Data - Build better health data systems.
  3. Educate Leaders and Public on ways to improve health.
  4. Financial Resources - Increase resources dedicated to health promotion.
  5. Use Multidimensional Health Promotion Approaches - Address policy, people's economic, social and physical environments, as well as behavior change.
  6. Address Root Problems of Health - including social, physical, psychological and environmental issues.

Announcing
  • A Denver Healthy People Park Hill Thriving Communities (PHTC) report on the use of Northeast Park Hill’s City of Axum Park shows that public use of the park skyrocketed by 500% since the city completed a nearly $500,000 overhaul in October of 2010. In Summer 2007, the City of Axum Park was identified by local residents through PHTC as a “trouble spot” and an underutilized community resource. PHTC led resident advocacy for improvements, building partnerships with Denver Parks and Recreation and others for action. The renovation came to fruiting thanks to the 2007 voter-approved Better Denver Bond Project and in-kind support from Volunteers for Outdoor Colorado (VOC), Park Hill Thriving Communities (PHTC) and LiveWell Colorado.
