STATE of the CITY
Past, Present and Future Come Together

Reflecting on our city’s past while also planning for the future - that was Mayor John Hickenlooper’s message July 24, 2007 in his State of the City address. As the Mile High City prepares for its 150th birthday, the Mayor reminded Metro Denver’s Chamber of Commerce of just how far we’ve come since 1858… and of present-day efforts to re-build a sense of community - an area where public input and commitment are the keys to success

- New Clerk and 3 New City Council Members Join Leadership

Mayor John Hickenlooper was sworn in for his second term heading a group of 10 other re-elected Council members and the City Auditor. Joining Denver's civic leadership is the first-ever elected City Clerk, and three new City Council members. The highlight of the ceremony, held at the Denver Arts Complex's Buell Theatre, was the Mayor's Inaugural Address setting out the framework for challenging Denver residents to make a commitment to keeping Denver a national model of urban renaissance.

"It’s not a matter of believing that Denver is better than other cities, for nothing is gained by vain pride, but rather an understanding - based upon impressive evidence - that our achievements rank at the top of urban undertakings in this nation," said Hickenlooper.
