CITY COUNCIL HOLDS FIRM TO AMEND BUDGET
Special Session Called to Override Mayoral Veto

Denver City Council held firm to its position Friday and voted to override Mayor Hickenlooper’s veto of an amendment to the 2008 City Budget on employee pay. At their Monday night November 3 meeting, City Council voted changes to a complex and somewhat controversial method of how the city pays its workers.

The Mayor objected to the changes and vetoed the amendment mid-week.  Council responded by holding a special meeting the afternoon of Friday, November 9 to challenge the Mayor’s veto and emerged with a 9-3 vote to keep the amendment in the proposed budget.
2007 MAYOR'S DESIGN AWARDS
Awards celebrate innovation, creativity, beauty

Artists and city leaders turned out recently for the 3rd annual Mayor’s Design Awards, celebrating and recognizing noteworthy buildings found throughout Denver.

“I think great cities are as enriched by many discreet and beautifully designed smaller projects as they are by the bold and grand civic gestures,”  says Mayor John Hickenlooper.  “Every time we do it, I come away with a sense of awe that a city like Denver that seems so, sometimes, on the surface, so placid, so almost normal, can generate and incubate such wonderful subtleties and such intense creativity.”

The awards are designed to recognize the small, but great things done by business owners, home owners, and individuals who are adding beauty to Denver’s neighborhoods.
