The mayor of Denver appoints the members of the HIV Resources Planning Council, a body legislatively mandated by the Ryan White CARE Act. The council consists of people living with HIV/AIDS, community volunteers, AIDS service providers and public health professionals.
Planning Council Responsibilities. The council is legislatively mandated to: establish priorities for the allocation of funds, develop a comprehensive plan for HIV/AIDS services, assess the administrative efficiency of the allocation of funds, participate in the development of the statewide coordinated statement of need, and establish methods for obtaining community input.
Council Committees. The council has developed a committee structure to help it fulfill its responsibilities. The council's committees include: Needs Assessment, Priorities, Nominations, Persons Living With HIV/AIDS (PLWH), Cultural Competency, People of Color, Rules/Grievance, and the Metro Denver AIDS Services Coalition.
Council Meetings. The council usually meets on the first Thursday of each month.
