 Denver Mountain Parks - Welcome

Denver Mountain Parks

Welcome to the Denver Mountain Parks web site. Denver Mountain Park system consists of 31 named parks and 16 unnamed parcels emcompassing approximately 14,000 acres of mountain and foothill land owned by the City of Denver.

The department currently is updating its 1914 Olmsted Plan in a major Master Plan process. Strategic plans help guide management decisions, allowing Denver to reaffirm and expand its original vision and to be the best steward possible for the historic Denver Mountain Park system. Other completed management tools include the state-funded Recreation Management Plan for Denver Mountain Parks and Jefferson County Open Spaces (2002), the State Historical Society funded Architectural Assessment, and the six-year capital plan. For information on the Architectural Assessment or six-year capital plan, please call 720-913-0617. For background information on the current plan, please visit the Denver Mountain Parks Foundation's Master Plan page (external link).

Submissions Sought for Buffalo Bill Museum RFQ Minimize

The Buffalo Bill Gravesite and Museum and Pahaska Tepee (the historic lodge that formerly housed the museum) are key attractions within the Denver Mountain Park system, located on Lookout Mountain. No historical figure, both in fact and in perception, has captured the allure, the realities, the ironies, and the mythology of the American West as Buffalo Bill Cody. Denver Parks and Recreation seeks a consultant to help the city-owned and managed Buffalo Bill Museum transition to a more independent cultural institution, with its own Board of Directors. We’re publishing this Request for Qualifications to select a consultant to help the Buffalo Bill Museum and Denver Parks and Recreation with:

  • Recommendation of the best governance model for Buffalo Bill Museum within the City structure.
  • Increased community awareness of and advocacy for Buffalo Bill Museum
  • A preliminary Board of Trustees identified, recruited, and trained.
Submissions will be taken until July 31, 2008. You may download the RFQ here. For information, call Museum Director, Steve Friesen, at 303.526.0744 or steve.friesen@denvergov.org.
