Summer 2008 Update
This was a busy summer for the Evans Station Area Plan. The planning team has been very busy developing a Preferred Concept Plan based on your feedback on the two Draft Concept Plans. We have spent much time looking into plan details to ensure that our plan concepts are feasible and implementable and that other city agencies are on board. These are the details that contribute to a successful plan (and a great community)!

Here are some of the issues we have been working on, and what you can expect to hear about this November 13 at the next public meeting:
- Reconsidering building heights along Broadway and identifying suitable nodes for taller buildings
Establishing an appropriate mixture of land uses that maintains some industry/employment but also allows for residential growth to support the establishment of neighborhood-serving retail and commercial uses
Considering solutions to improving the pedestrian environment, circulation in general, and the parking situation
Determining the feasibility of constructing bike/ped bridges (from an engineering perspective) at Jewell and Iliff across Santa Fe
Feasibility (from engineering and parks perspective) of a bike lane/trail along Jewell, in particular, south of the Overland Golf Course and connecting to the S. Platte River Trail
Recommendation for which of the two bike/ped bridges is “priority”
Defining what we mean by “Maintain Stable Residential”, as seen on the Draft Concept Plans
Determining the market/feasibility for promoting this area as an arts district
Researching feasibility of putting a traffic signal at Jewell
Determining feasibility of an elevator from the Evans bridge to the station area
Researching the feasibility of starting a community garden
Looking into the idea of changing the name of the station to something like "Evans Station at Overland Park"
Gaining better understanding of the Broadway Reconstruction Project
Discussing creating an Improvement and or Maintenance District along Broadway
As you can see, we have been very busy. Please stay tuned for information on future meetings, and contact Barbara.Frommell@denvergov.org if you have any questions.

Second Public Workshop - Review of Draft Concept Plans
A second public workshop was held on Tuesday, May 6th at John Collins Church (2320 S. Bannock St.). Over 60 people attended. The City presented two Draft Concept Plans for the Evans Station Area. Meeting attendees broke into small groups to evaluate the Draft Concept Plans. The Meeting Summary documents the feedback from each of the small groups.
Based on input from the public, the best elements of the two Draft Concept Plans will be chosen and packaged together into a Preferred Concept Plan. This will be presented along with detailed plan recommendations at the third public workshop (tentatively scheduled for November 2008).

The City's planning team gave presentations on the planning process, transit-oriented development (TOD) and opportunities and constraints that exist in the study area. Then members of the public broke into ten small groups to determine their vision for the area. Each group presented their vision at the workshop.
