Finding Records

How to Obtain a Record

The Records Division assists with searches on everything that is recorded and available for public record. Self-search is encouraged. For customers who wish to conduct self-search, the staff provides instruction on how to:

  • locate records
  • search for marriage documents for purpose of immigration or adoption
  • use computers and microfilm/microfiche readers, viewers, and printers

Search fees will apply and can be located on the Fees page

Requests for copies of deeds, marriage applications, marriage certificates, and other recorded documents can be requested by mail.  You may download a Record Request form or a Marriage Record Request form and submit it to the Records Counter at the Office of the Clerk and Recorder for processing.

Record Types

Deeds of Trust

To obtain copies of deeds of trust, the following information must be supplied:

  • Grantor or grantee name
  • Date of recording
  • Reception number, if recorded on or after 10/1/1984
  • Book and page number, if recorded on or before 9/30/1984

Deeds can be requested by submitting a Record Request form.

The Records Division does not index deed records by property address or parcel number and thus cannot retrieve records in this manner. However, this service is available through both the Real Property Records Search and an automated phone system, 720‑913‑4162, maintained by the Assessor’s Office.

Marriage Records

Marriage records can be researched and obtained in our office and by mail by submitting a Marriage Record Request Form. Email requests are not accepted. Forms are available on the Marriage Licenses Forms page.

Additionally, you may obtain marriage records from the state, through the State Registrar of Vital Statistics, a division of the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment. This state office has available birth, death and divorce records.

Marriage license applications (which are distinct from marriage licenses and certificates) are also kept as records. These completed applications are not public records. They are provided upon request only to the marriage applicants upon proof of identity. Inquire at the City Clerk window.

Military Discharge Records

Military discharges are not public records. They are provided upon request only to the person named in the record upon proof of identity. Inquire at the Records desk.

Special District Maps

By law, all Title 32 special districts must have a copy of its map on file with the county Clerk and Recorder in each county where their boundaries overlap the county boundary. This includes metropolitan districts and several other types of special districts, but does not include all of the different kinds of special districts that are within the Denver boundaries. At the Denver Clerk and Recorder Office, most of the maps submitted by special districts are in PDF form, and may be found online here.

Plat Maps/Condominium Maps

All plat maps are recorded and filed in the Clerk and Recorder's Office. They can be searched online here. You can search by plat name or by Clerk and Recorder reception number. You may request a reception number by email to records@denvergov.org, or by calling 311 inside Denver and asking to be transferred to Clerk and Recorder Records.

Condominium maps are recorded and filed in the Clerk and Recorder's Office and are not available online.

Official and certified copies of any plat may be obtained in the Clerk and Recorder's Office and fees are listed here. Copies printed anywhere other than at the Clerk and Recorder's Office should never be used for official purposes as they are not certified.
