Speak out and share your ideas on what democracy is (or isn't) through the art of film. Submit your entry online through July 15.

Top films will be screened at Red Rocks Amphitheater on Monday, August 25 that 7PM



What does America mean to you? We want to know! Tell us your story via your own creative work for display on the Web and in a traveling exhibit. Deadline for submissions is July 15th. Your story could become part of a large and exciting “America: Live and In Person” exhibit that will be displayed throughout Colorado this summer.

City and county of denver 2008 democratic national convention website
The City of Denver is excited to host the 2008 Democratic National Convention, a once-in-a-century event. This is the second time Denver has hosted the Democratic National Convention, the last time was exactly 100 hundred years ago in 1908.
 
The Democratic National Convention 2008 is anticipated to attract 35,000 guests to the region including delegates, elected officials, media, and political enthusiasts from around the world. Additionally, it is anticipated that Denver will bring in $160 million in economic benefits.
 
The Convention will be held on August 25-28, 2008 at the Pepsi Center.
  
 About the Convention
The Denver 2008 Convention Host Commitee
This is a local organization comprised of local volunteers that has partnered with the City of Denver to host the 2008 Democratic National Convention.  The Host Committee will raise the funds necessary to cover the costs associated with hosting a political nominating convention and recruit and train approximately 10,000 volunteers for convention week.

City Starts Planning for Aging Boom
Mayor John Hickenlooper has announced the creation of a task force to identify strategies to help Denver prepare for the anticipated “age wave” of rapidly aging baby boomers. Wants to ensure services and keep aging population engaged.

 
 



DIA Sets Another Record

DIA had its busiest month ever in August, making it the 20th month in a row it set a  monthly record for passenger traffic.  But it was the smallest monthly increase since April and traffic is expected to decline now that airlines are cutting capacity to deal with higher fuel costs.



3-1-1 Call Center Hits the Million Mark!
A little more than 2 years after it opened, Denver's 3-1-1 Customer Service Center served its millionth caller.  The Center receives about 100 non-emergency calls for services and information every hour.



Mayor's 2009 Proposed City Budget
The proposed $914 million dollar budget is 5 percent higher than in fiscal year 2008, due mainly to increased fuel and utility costs.  Focus areas include safety and quality of life. Watch each of Departmental reviews. City Council holds a public hearing October 27.

Pregnancy Prevention Program Honored for Innovation
The Denver Teen Pregnancy Prevention Partnership will receive an Outstanding Emerging Innovation Program Award at the Healthy Teen Network Annual Conference in October.  The goal of the program is to reduce teen pregnancies through a community partnership.



Denver Receives S&P Rating Upgrade to Triple A
Signaling a strong endorsement of the City’s financial management practices, Standard & Poor’s (S&P) Rating Service has upgraded the General Obligation (GO) ratings for the City and County of Denver to AAA from AA+ with a stable outlook.  The credit upgrade elevates Denver to one of the most credit-worthy cities in the country.

 


DIA Has Busiest Month in Airport's History
More than 5 million passengers travelled through Denver International Airport in July - its busiest month ever - and the 19th month in a row in which passenger traffic has hit a monthly record.



Diedra Garcia Appointed Manager of General Services
Denver's new Manager of General Services begins in the new position on November 2.  She is currently President and CEO of a commercial construction company and has held key positions in human resources.



Mayor Praises Police, Public Works on Protecting Public During Convention
Caches of Potentially Harmful & Disruptive Materials Seized throughout the Week. “Our police and Public Works crews engineered an extraordinary behind-the-scenes collaboration preceding and during the Democratic National Convention which thwarted plans of those intent on disrupting our city,” Mayor Hickenlooper said.
 
 
 



New Manager for Parks and Recreation Department Announced
 
Mayor Hickenlooper has announced the appointment of Kevin Patterson as the new Manager of the Parks & Recreation Department.  Kevin brings a unique combination of experience as a teacher, elected official and executive manager to his new post.
